Piperine 98%

Piperine 98% – Product Information

Piperine is a naturally occurring alkaloid. It is a key component of black pepper and is responsible for the spice’s pungency and biting taste.

Research has shown that piperine stimulates the digestive enzymes of the pancreas and helps inhibit oxidation reactions caused by free radicals. Piperine has also demonstrated anti-inflammatory activities in models of inflammatory bowel disease, type 1 diabetes, arthritis, as well as cancer. Furthermore, it has been shown to improve cognitive function, alleviate depression symptoms, and lower cholesterol levels.

Pure Rawz sells Piperine for laboratory research use only.

What is Piperine?

Piperine is a naturally occurring alkaloid present in black pepper. Alkaloids are nitrogenous compounds of plant origin. They have pronounced physiological action in subjects and are widely used in compounds (ephedra) and modern medicine (morphine, quinine). [R]

Piperine was first isolated from black pepper extract in 1819. It was later identified that piperine forms 2% – 9% of black pepper and gives the spice its pungency and biting taste. The piperine content of black pepper is influenced by climate, growing conditions, and place of origin. [R]

Over the last 200 years, various studies have been conducted on piperine. These studies have shown that piperine is capable of enhancing the ‘bioavailability’ of other substances. Put another way, this alkaloid enhances the ability of the body to make use of drugs and nutrients. [R][R]

Aside from that, Piperine has been shown to remove free radicals from the body, lower inflammation, and improve blood cholesterol levels. In clinical trials, piperine enhanced skin pigmentation in people with vitiligo and lowered blood sugar levels in type-2 diabetes patients. [R][R]

How Does Piperine Work?

Here are the proven effects of piperine extract:

• Decreases inflammation. Black pepper piperine has been shown to reduce the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1b, TNF-a, and PGE2) and to increase the levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10). [R]
• Increases dopamine and serotonin levels. This effect was reported in two preclinical studies. It might be significant since dopamine and serotonin are crucial brain chemicals that regulate various functions. [R][R]
• Enhances gastric acid secretion. Gastric acid helps the body break down food for easier digestion. In a preclinical study, piperine dose-dependently increased the body’s secretion of gastric acid. [R][R]
• Inhibits detoxification enzymes. Detoxifying enzymes (such as CYP3A4) break down drugs and prevent the body from using them. By inhibiting these enzymes, piperine helps the body effectively use drugs. [R]

In addition to the above effects, piperine has demonstrated the ability to destroy free radicals, increase muscle metabolism by enhancing ATPase activity, and inhibit prostaglandins (hormone-like fats). [R][R][R]

Piperine Research

What follows is a summary of the existing clinical research on piperine. The information given in this section is for educational purposes only and doesn’t constitute medical advice.

Piperine isn’t intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any disease.

Piperine and Drug Bioavailability

A 1979 study identified piperine as the first-ever compound that increases the bioavailability of other substances. Two other studies later corroborated the findings of this study. Both showed piperine increasing the body’s ability to use nutrients and other supplements. [R][R][R]

For instance, piperine increased the blood concentration of carbamazepine (an anti-seizure drug) in 2 trials on 32 people. Similarly, in two separate clinical trials, it increased the bioavailability of chlorzoxazone (a muscle relaxant) and curcumin (a compound found in turmeric). [R][R][R]

Piperine and Antioxidation

In a randomized clinical trial of patients with metabolic syndrome, short-term treatment with a curcumin-piperine combination significantly improved oxidative and inflammatory status. [R]

Three more trials investigated the antioxidant effects of piperine + curcumin combined treatment. All three showed the improvement in antioxidant status in:

• Almost 100 subjects with chronic lung disease [R]
• 40 subjects with osteoarthritis [R]
• 20 subjects with pancreatitis [R]

Piperine and Inflammation

A clinical trial set out to investigate the effects of the combination of curcumin and piperine on over 100 people with type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome. The final results showed a reduction in CRP levels, thereby highlighting the anti-inflammatory effects of the treatment. [R]

In another trial, the same combination reduced inflammation (decreased levels of CRP, IL4, and IL 6) in 40 patients with knee osteoarthritis. [R]

Piperine and Blood Cholesterol

According to a clinical trial involving 118 people with type 2 diabetes, the combined curcumin (1,000 mg/day) and piperine (10 mg/day) treatment lowered total cholesterol and LDL (‘bad’) cholesterol while increasing HDL (‘good’) cholesterol. [R]

Another randomized clinical trial investigated the lipid-modifying effects of the curcumin-piperine combination in 100 patients with metabolic syndrome. It also reported a reduction in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol and an increase in HDL cholesterol. [R]

Piperine and Blood Sugar

Only one clinical trial has investigated the effects of piperine (5 mg/day) and curcumin (500 mg/day) on blood sugar levels. The trial involved 100 people with type 2 diabetes and reported a reduction in blood sugar levels and reduced liver damage. [R]

Piperine and Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a long-lasting (chronic) condition that causes patches of skin to lose pigmentation or color. In a randomized clinical trial of 63 people with vitiligo, combined piperine and narrowband UV-B radiation therapy enhanced skin pigmentation. [R]
